Everton close to Algerian Defender?

The Daily Star have claimed that Everton are close to completing the signing of Rennes defender Ramy Bensebaini in a deal worth £13 million. The defender acts as a form of powerhouse in the defence who plays prominently as a centre-half but has often filled in at left-back for the French outfit this past season.

The 6″1 defender was expected to leave Rennes this summer, with Stuttgart and Everton the most likely destinations but it appears Everton have taken the advantage in the race and it is likely Bensebaini will be Silva’s first signing as Everton manager. The defender will offer versatility in Everton’s defence by being able to play in multiple roles but will probably act as a replacement for Leighton baines if the Kieran Tierney deal does not go through.

Despite the fact that Bensebaini is still a relatively unknown prospect and will have much to prove in his move to the Premier League, this signals the beginning of what should be several new faces at Goodison Park this summer. Silva and Brands appear to be addressing the biggest concerns within the squad which is something Allardyce and Koeman failed to do.
