Player Of The Month – August 2021

Here we are then, the start of our Player Of The Month series. We will be letting you know who we picked as our standout player for the blues each month. With 4 games played so far this season Rafa Benitez’s Everton side find themselves unbeaten, winning twice in the league and drawing at Elland Road while progressing to the next round of the Carabao Cup.

Everton ended August with the signing of Venezuelan striker Salomon Rondon on a free transfer from Dalian Professional in China, this now the 3rd time Benitez and Rondon have joined up with one another. Some would argue that the signing of Rondon isn’t good enough for what Everton are needing, however I think most would agree it is shrewd business on a free transfer with Everton getting a well experienced striker that can be called upon if Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison ever become unavailable for selection.

So let us look at which players were picked and which player was voted our Player Of The Month for August.

Third Place – Allan and Alex Iwobi

Allan has started the season very strongly this season with a very impressive display against Brighton, some would say probably his best performance in an Everton shirt with the Brazilians killer pass through the lines to Seamus Coleman helped win the blues a penalty. Even in the penalty scenario involving Richarlison, Allan showed his leadership and put an arm round Richarlison telling him to give up the penalty to Dominic Calvert-Lewin which helped the blues get the 2-0 win

Alex Iwobi is Everton Marmite, some love him, some not so much. It is great to see that under Rafa Benitez this lad is excelling and impressing. Iwobi’s best performance in an Everton shirt of recent times came in our Carabao Cup 2-1 win against Huddersfield Town. It’s easy to see that Benitez’s influence is impacting Iwobi’s performances with the Nigerian even coming out and saying “The manager is always talking to me and trying to help me.”. Hopefully more to come this season.

Second Place – Abdoulaye Doucoure

Doucoure spoke before the start of the season saying “This season, I think I am going to be more forward and attacking. The manager wants me to be more offensive.” and we have seen just that from the Frenchmen. Carrying the ball forward and having a bigger attacking presence already than what he did under Carlo Ancelotti, Doucoure has 1 goal and 1 assist in just 3 games for the blues so far this season. Alex McCarthy is still having nightmares of that rocket that went into the back of the net on the opening day of the season against Southampton

First Place – Demarai Gray

This shouldn’t be any surprise should it? Demarai Gray was bought for £1.7 Million from Bayer Leverkusen and I won’t lie I was skeptic on the signing as I thought that he wouldn’t make much impact. At this moment I couldn’t look anymore wrong. Gray has played in all 4 of Everton’s games this season and his pace and trickiness on the wing has already looked like it has made a massive difference that isn’t even mentioning his goals against Leeds United and Brighton. Gray has looked like a player Everton have been missing for a very long time and so far is looking an absolute bargain. Here is to more performances similar to what Gray has put in already and so we can hear his song again!

🎶 Demarai Gray Ole Ole Ole 🎶
