Everton earned only their second away win in the league all season with a 2-1 victory over Leicester.
Vitalii Mykolenko’s fifth minute wonder strike fired the Toffees ahead and Mason Holgate scored the winner on 30 minutes after Patson Daka had equalised for the hosts.
A hugely successful weekend for the Blues sees them climb to 16th, a point ahead of Leeds United in 18th with a game in hand.
A vociferous away end at the King Power Stadium inspired Frank Lampard’s side to victory and Evertonians will have been delighted to see Mykolenko score his first ever goal for the club with a well-executed volley from 20 yards out.
It was the dream start for the Toffees but just six minutes later, a defensive mix-up between Yerry Mina and Seamus Coleman allowed Daka through to restore parity.
Things worsened when the Colombian defender was forced off with injury yet again on 18 minutes and Michael Keane took his place.
It was Keane’s defensive partner who restored Everton’s lead on the half hour mark when he tapped home from close range after Richarlison’s initial header was stopped by Kasper Schmeichel.
The goalkeeper at the other end came into his own during the second half as Jordan Pickford made several more world class saves, building on his miraculous save against Chelsea the previous weekend, which helped the Blues to another crucial three points.
It was another case of Everton not playing the prettiest but instead being resolute in defence and taking their chances when they arrived.
Alex Iwobi in particular did not give up on a single loose ball and the effort from the entire squad was rewarded with a second win on the bounce since September and a first away triumph since August.
The Toffees go into their next match, away at already-relegated Watford on Wednesday, knowing it’s another golden opportunity to push themselves further away from the drop zone.
With the confidence ebbing through the players and fans alike, Premier League safety could be just around the corner for this historic football club.
