Ah so the 2022/2023 Premier League season is a month in and Everton ended the month in 17th place picking up 3 draws and 2 loses to start the season. The blues however picked up their first win of the season against EFL League One side Fleetwood Town in the Second Round of the Carabao Cup, thanks to Demarai Gray. Despite a lack of wins for the blues there have been a lot of positives to take from Frank Lampard’s side.
So let’s go through the Player Of The Month vote for August 2022 between the regular Toffee Blues contributors;
3rd – Jordan Pickford
Jordan Pickford, a massive reason why Everton are playing Premier League football this season has started the season strongly. Big saves to keep the blues in games and also providing an assist for Demarai Gray as he slotted against Nottingham Forest. It’s no surprise that Pickford has made the list on the first attempt and yet again looks to be that he will be a massive player for Everton this season coming
2nd – Nathan Patterson + Anthony Gordon
Nathan Patterson signed under the reign of Rafa Benitez in the January Transfer Window earlier this year only managed 46 minutes for the blues last season in their 2-0 win over Boreham Wood at Goodison Park before his injury which kept him out for the season. Now the young Scot has started every game of the season for the blues and is leaving fans majorly impressed after some stellar performances down Everton’s right hand side. Evertonians were worried they might not be able to find a suitable replacement for Seamus Coleman, we needn’t of worried at all it looks like.
Headlines throughout August were filled with rumours of Goodison’s starboy Anthony Gordon leaving the club to secure a move down south to Chelsea. How did Gordon behave? Was he like Leicester City’s Wesley Fofana who handed in a transfer request and straight up refused to play for his club? No. The scouser showed just how you act during a transfer saga, keep your head down and treat your club with respect. Gordon’s tricky displays on the wing have already caused problems for Premier League defence’s seeing the 21 year old pick up 2 goals for the blues throughout August already halfway to his tally from the season previous. Here is to a season where we see Gordon’s contributions and potential grow!
1st – Alex Iwobi
No surprises here, Alex Iwobi is our Player Of The Month. What a turnaround! A player who a lot of Everton fans had written off and there would be groans when they would see his name on the team sheet is now probably the player you can’t drop. Iwobi has picked up 2 assists for the blues already in his new role in center midfield and has easily looked Everton’s most impressive player in every fixture they played throughout August. Frank Lampard’s decision to play Iwobi in the middle looks to be a masterstroke
