September has been and gone, only the two matches for Everton throughout the month seeing the blues remain unbeaten after a 0-0 draw against Liverpool in the Merseyside Derby and a 1-0 win against West Ham.
Four points on the board which pushed Everton up to 13th in the table a much more respectful position than scrapping for points in one of the relegation places, Frank Lampard can breath a sigh of relief after waiting so long for the first League win against West Ham before the pointless international break filled with glorified friendlies took place. Everton had strong performances all-round in the squad so let’s see who has been worth a mention…
Third Place – Conor Coady – 2/17 votes
When Conor Coady stabbed home the ball into the Gwladys Street net in the Merseyside Derby, Goodison erupted. The Former Liverpool player who many Evertonians raised concern at when the signing was announced has been nothing short of a sensation. So cruel that what would be a dream goal for Coady was taken away by VAR especially when it was a very tight call. His Everton goal soon came though but we’ll leave that for October.
Rock solid in defence, a true leader at the back, the former Wolves Captain has already showed this season how crucial of a player he will be. Coady’s partnership with James Tarkowski currently looks to be one of Everton’s most solid Defences of recent times and with each game grows stronger.
Second Place – Alex Iwobi – 7/17 votes
Everton’s man of the moment, Alex Iwobi. What else is there to say about Alex Iwobi since the August article? The Nigerian has not put a foot wrong for Everton so far this season and if he had he would likely track back and win possession again anyway. Throughout September Iwobi put in a stellar performance in the 0-0 draw against Liverpool and helped himself to another assist in our 1-0 win against West Ham United, certainly proving that he is one of the first names on the team sheet.
Iwobi is like a player reborn in his current role in Everton’s midfield, the additions of Amadou Onana and Idrissa Gana Gueye have only made his performances better as the defensive players in Onana and Gueye allow Iwobi to focus much more on the attacking side of his game. Neal Maupay’s winner against West Ham showed when in and around the box Iwobi can make that killer pass to Everton’s forward line. Gone are the days when there would be moans and groans every weekend when Iwobi’s name was in the Starting 11.
First Place – Nathan Patterson – 8/17 votes
To say that this month’s Player Of The Month vote was close is an understatement, Patterson wins this month by 1 single vote but you can hardly say that it isn’t deserved. It is so harsh and cruel that after such a brilliant start to the season for the young Scot that he now faces time on the sidelines after picking up an injury on International Duty. When he arrived in January of this year from Rangers for an initial fee of £5.5 Million Evertonians were hoping to see the Scottish Right Back come in and take after Seamus Coleman right away, however an injury which kept him out for the final months of last season meant we seen 45 minutes against non-league side Boreham Wood.
Patterson bided his time and started this season brilliantly after strong performances in August and to note the Merseyside Derby in September where he kept Liverpool Winger Luis Diaz very quiet in the 0-0 draw. Only 20 years and impressing the Goodison crowd already, Patterson looks to have a bright future at Everton, o doubt he will be raring to go to get back into the Everton starting line up as soon as possible.
