Hannna Bennison hit the target late into added time to give Everton the 1-0 lead over Leicester City on Thursday night. The blues have now gained 6 points from their last 3 games and are 5th in the WSL table.
The Toffee’s showed passion and momentum following the win at Anfield. Jess Park again was a key player, causing major problems for Leicester’s defence down the right wing.
Katja Snoeijs played through Izzy Christiansen, however the captain was well defended when looking to play the ball to Gabby George. Snoeijs was later presented with an opportunity for herself but tested Kirsty Levell with a low effort.
The best chance of the first half came from the skilful Nathalie Björn who started the Toffee’s attack, Izzy Christiansen found an excellent position in the box but her delivery narrowly missed the incoming Katja Snoeijs.
Leicester made themselves a tough side to face last night, they showed resilience and posed a threat towards the blues goal. They held small spells of attacking pressure in the second half but many shots were blocked by the incredible goalkeeping of Emily Ramsey on debut for Everton.
The Toffee’s responded well to the Foxes pressure. Karen Holmgaard was brought on as a substitute and made an immediate impact, forcing Kirsty Levell to block her first shot on her WSL debut.
In the 93rd minute substitute Elise Stenevik won a free kick down the left wing. The set piece was taken by Hanna Bennison. She sent the sold out Walton Hall Park into wild celebrations as her attempt was palmed in by Kirsty Levell in the 94th minute.
It was incredible to see Walton Hall Park sold out. The fans created an amazing atmosphere to spur on the Toffee’s. It was great to see so many new people being introduced to the women’s game.
A huge congratulations to Megan Finnigan on reaching the marvellous milestone of her 150th appearance for Everton.
Brian Sørensen’s Blue’s will be back at Walton Hall Park on the 16th of October to face the WSL champions, Chelsea.
