Everton have been linked to a move for Roma and England striker, Tammy Abraham. Reports from Gazzetta dello Sport in Italy have said that Everton are interested in signing the 25 year old forward and are said to be “in the front row” of clubs that are interested in Abraham.
It must be said that this season Abraham’s form has been a bit underwhelming if you were to compare him to his first year at Roma. This season he has played 35 games for Mourinho’s Roma side, scoring only 7 goals and getting 6 assists. In his first season in Italy he played 53 games overall scoring 27 goals and getting 5 assists also. Still a crucial part of the squad at Roma but with Belotti and Dybala they already do have some experienced Attacking options up front and could look to cash in on Abraham.
It is also said in the report that one of Tammy Abraham’s former teams Aston Villa are also interested in potentially signing the striker so it looks like if the report is true Everton could have some competition for his signature.
Now here is the part that makes you question Everton’s interest, Roma’s current asking price for Tammy Abraham is said to be €75 Million!
Now as we all know, Everton are not the big money spenders they were 5 or so years ago and with the recent FFP issues as well as potential relegation from the Premier League you really question if Everton are actually interested like the report states or if it is just the typical Italian media throwing Everton’s name in to get more interest in the player.
Toffee Blues says;
1/5 – Everton desperately need to sign a new striker in the summer no matter what league they will be playing in and while I think Tammy Abraham would be a good signing realistically this one just isn’t going to happen. With an asking price of €75 Million it is likely to make Everton take their interest elsewhere, as with current financial issues at the club it is very unlikely they would be willing to fork out that much money on one single player.
Hopefully Everton can look to nail down Premier League survival sooner rather than later so it can give the Everton recruitment team a clear picture on the type of targets Everton can look to persuade to join them this summer.
