On Sunday, a strong Everton side were forced to settle for a point against Leicester City as the visitors were restricted by some excellent goalkeeping and tenacious play by the Foxes.

The lowest team in the table owes their draw against an Everton team that dominated possession due to the heroics of goalkeeper Janina Leitzig. The loanee made a number of saves, including two outstanding ones to prevent Katja Snoeijs and her replacement Aggie Beever-Jones from clinching all three points for the Toffees.

Elise Stenevik, Hanna Bennison, and Nicoline Sørensen were all reinstated by Brian Sørensen for the match at the King Power.

For the Blues in the first 45 minutes, Hanna Bennison and Nicoline Sørensen appeared to be the most dangerous players. The two successfully directing Everton’s offensive actions. Despite the visitors’ best efforts, there weren’t many chances created in the first half as a compact Leicester team handled the pressure.

Katrine Veje only having recently recovered from an injury, appeared as though she had never been away. After 54 minutes, Hanna Bennison was replaced by the Danish international, who displayed confidence in both her defence and her ability to lead an attack.

About the hour mark, the ball dropped to Katja Snoeijs in the area, and Janina Leitzig deflected her shot past the post. This was arguably Everton’s finest opportunity of the game.

Everton’s frustration increased as the game remained deadlocked, but the dying minutes saw the action come to life. Aggie Beever-Jones, Izzy Christiansen, and Karen Holmgaard all had excellent opportunities, but their shots either went wide or were blocked.

Leicester remained a constant threat on the break away and were thwarted several times by the excellence of Courtney Brosnan. Player of the match because of this for me was Courtney Brosnan, she made some crucial saves to keep us in a game that we dominated and would have been more than unfortunate to lose. The 0-0 draw meant that Courtney kept her 4th consecutive away clean sheet.

The Merseyside Derby is up next! The blues will face Liverpool at Goodison Park on Friday the 24th of March, kick off is at 7.30pm.
