Midfielder Aurora Galli has extended her stay with Everton by signing a new contract with the Club.
The Women’s Super League first-ever Italian player joined the Blues in July 2021 and has seen her game flourish on Merseyside.
A fans’ favourite, ‘Yaya’ missed only three league matches last season, starting 19 times for Brian Sorensen’s side.
The Italy international proved to be a vital contributor going forward in 2023/24, scoring three goals and providing two assists in the league. Galli’s strike against West Ham United in February 2022 winning the WSL’s Goal of the Month.
Ready for her fourth season at Everton, the 27-year-old explained why she wanted to remain a Blue.
“I’m very excited to continue on as an Everton player,” Galli told evertontv.
“There is a built-up relationship here with everyone at the Club. I enjoy seeing everyone, I’ve grown with this group and the fans. I cannot wait for the season to get started.
“There is real potential with this group. We have unfinished work from last season because we played good football but made too many mistakes.
“This season isn’t about transition; it’s about showing what we have learnt and what we are capable of doing.
“My hope is this season we are flying.”
Last term saw Galli adapt to a new role at wing-back where goals and assists came into her game.
The Italian’s formidable form – alongside the backing of passionate Evertonians – has breathed new confidence into her game.
“All I want to do is to contribute to the will of the Club,” said Galli. “Evertonians played a big part in that. They are like a second family.
“When I say that, I mean it. Everyone is so kind, they see you as the person and not just the player.
“They are a big part of this club and I’m so happy I can continue to be a part of it.”
Everton manager Sorensen added: “I’m delighted we were able to extend Yaya’s stay at Everton.
“She is a key member of our squad both on and off the pitch.
“Yaya is a wonderful human being, a great teammate and a delight for the coaching staff and me to work with.
“When we moved her into a freer role last season, she did really well.
“Hopefully we can build on that this season and she can be even more dangerous in front of goal.
“She has that potential, and it was key for us to keep a player of her quality on board.
“Yaya isn’t even in her prime yet, there is still so much for her to give to the Club and for the Italy national team.
“I’m super excited for this season where we can hopefully take another positive step forward with her and the team as a whole.”
