Everton Women’s assistant head coach Stephen Neligan has signed a new two-year contract with the Club until the end of June 2027.
The Australian extends his stay with the Toffees a day after it was announced head coach Brian Sorensen had agreed a new deal with the Blues.
Neligan arrived in April 2022 alongside Sorensen – the duo having previously worked together at both FC Nordsjaelland and Fortuna Hjorring in Denmark – as Everton finished sixth in the Women’s Super League in 2022/23.
After putting pen to paper, Neligan spoke of the Club’s family feel and the positive first impressions of owners, The Friedkin Group.
“I am delighted to commit my future to this club,” he told evertontv. “It is definitely a place where I feel at home and I know it’s big for Brian as well. We both feel happy to be here and excited for the future.
“This city has become my home away from home. The people are very similar to where I’m from: hard-working and they have to work for what they get.
“The first time we went to The Winslow, we saw what this club means to the people. It just fills you with a sense of pride to know what you’re representing.”
The Blues have been in fine form since bolstering their squad in the January transfer market, as six new faces arrived on Merseyside.
After taking over the Club, The Friedkin Group spoke of their desire to improve the Women’s team, with Neligan full of praise after receiving backing from the new owners.
“The first impressions of the new ownership has been very good,” he said. “The feel around the Club has changed. I think it’s been a tough past couple of years for everybody associated with the Club, most importantly the fans.
“It is hopefully a new time to put some smiles on the Evertonians’ faces. We are just excited about moving forward. It feels like we’re moving into a new period that is very exciting.”
Three games remain for Everton this season, with the Toffees bidding for a fifth-place finish.
“We will certainly go out and try to be the best that we can,” added Neligan.
“Hopefully we can continue to build the squad, progress our style of play and then that can take us to the next level.”
