Hello, and welcome back to another loan report. Here’s how those competing outside of Finch Farm got on over the weekend.
League Two:
Billy Crellin- Accrington Stanley- 23rd out of 24
Crellin was an unused substitute in Accrington Stanley’s late 1-0 home defeat to Crewe Alexandra.
The 24-year-old goalkeeper is yet to force his way into John Doolan’s side, who remain winless in their six league games.
Accrington face Port Vale at the Crown Ground on Saturday.
Jenson Metcalfe- Chesterfield- 11th out of 24
Metcalfe was handed a first senior start in Chesterfield’s 1-0 defeat at Port Vale, following two impressive cameos from the bench prior.
The academy graduate was substituted in the 83rd minute, however did register another solid display, completing 82% of his attempted passes.
The Spireites host Cheltenham Town next, with the 20-year-old looking to cement his place in Paul Cook’s starting line-up.
Francis Okoronkwo- Salford City- 13th out of 24
Okoronkwo completed 57 minutes in Salford’s 2-1 home win over Cheltenham Town, as he was substituted for match-winner Hakeeb Adelakun.
The young forward was withdrawn with the Ammies a goal behind, only for his replacement to spark an immediate turnaround, scoring twice to seal all three points for the hosts.
Salford take on Walsall at Moor Lane on Saturday.
League One:
Tyler Onyango- Stockport County- 4th out of 24
The 21-year-old midfielder continued his run in the starting XI, making his seventh appearance for Stockport in a 1-1 draw with Crawley Town.
Onyango played the full 90 minutes, operating as right centre-half in a back three.
The former England youth international was rested for the Hatters’ 4-1 EFL Trophy victory over Everton u23’s.
County sit fourth in the table, with Leyton Orient to come next.
Harry Tyrer- Blackpool- 19th out of 24
Tyrer was handed his first league start by new manager Steve Bruce in Blackpool’s 2-1 win over Exeter City.
The Tangerines led for most of the game, before being pegged back by a wonderful free kick from Ed Francis in the 88th minute, only to snatch all three points at the death, via James Husband’s last-gasp header.
The 22-year-old loanee produced a fine save on the hour mark, springing low to his left to deny the visitors an equaliser.
Tyrer was on the bench as Bruce’s men exited the League Cup in midweek, however will expect to be back in the side for their clash against Charlton Athletic on Saturday.
Championship:
Mason Holgate- West Bromwich Albion- 1st out of 24
Holgate was a part of the Baggies’ matchday squad for the first time since his return to the club, watching on as they recorded a 3-0 away win at Portsmouth to continue their electric start to the season.
An early Josh Maja goal gave the visitors the lead, before Alex Mowatt bagged a brace to secure an impressive victory at Fratton Park.
The defender, who already has 23 Albion appearances, will be hoping to be handed a chance against Plymouth Argyle next time out.
Ligue 1:
Neal Maupay- Marseille- 2nd out of 18
Maupay notched his first goal for Marseille in their 2-0 win over Nice, opening his account with a 40th-minute header as they maintained their unbeaten start to the campaign.
The striker was first to latch onto a deflected cross, heading home from close range on his maiden start for the club.
Marseille travel to Lyon next.
Challenger Pro League:
Reece Welch- Deinze- 4th out of 16
Welch is yet to feature for Belgian second division outfit Deinze, who currently sit fourth in the table.
The 20-year-old will be aiming for a debut on Sunday against Club NXT.
