Harry Tyrer Blackpool Celebrates

As we reach the halfway mark of the 2024/25 season, it has been a mixed campaign for many of Everton’s loanees, with plenty of goals, injuries and clean sheets to boot. Here’s how those plying their trade away from Goodison Park have got on so far.

League Two:

Billy Crellin- Accrington Stanley- 19th out of 24

Billy Crellin Accrington Stanley v Liverpool

Appearances: 20

Clean Sheets: 5

Crellin has enjoyed a successful start to his first loan spell since joining the Toffees, with the 24-year-old firmly consolidating his place as Accrington’s no.1.

The goalkeeper had to be patient initially, missing the first four fixtures of the season, but has since become a mainstay, playing 19 consecutive games in all competitions, keeping five clean sheets in the process.

Crellin’s finest moment in a Stanley shirt to date came in the FA Cup second round, saving three penalties to set up a clash at Anfield, where the stopper impressed, despite being on the wrong end of a 4-0 score line.

Accrington sit 19th in League Two, five points clear of the relegation zone.

Jenson Metcalfe- Chesterfield- 10th out of 24

Appearances: 11

Goals: 0

Metcalfe’s time in Derbyshire has been a mixed bag so far, with the midfielder’s spell in the team cut short due to a foot injury.

The 20-year-old caught the eye of the Spireites’ faithful whilst fit, impressing fans with his flair and exuberance in the engine room, as Paul Cook’s newly-promoted side went on an eight-game unbeaten run.

Metcalfe hasn’t been seen since early November, though, with no time frame given on his return from a frustrating period on the sidelines.

Francis Okoronkwo- Salford City- 3rd out of 24

Appearances: 15

Goals: 3

Okoronkwo finds himself injured as Salford’s charge for promotion hits supersonic speed, winning six league games on the bounce without conceding to jump from 14th to an automatic promotion slot.

The forward, who has bagged three goals in 15 for the Ammies to date, has shown flashes of quality at The Peninsula Stadium, including a wonderful solo-goal on debut to defeat MK Dons, but is yet to nail down a place in the starting XI.

Salford will be looking to bounce back from an 8-0 drubbing at Manchester City in their next tie, a home fixture against Fleetwood Town.

League One:

Tyler Onyango- Stockport County- 7th out of 24

Appearances: 10

Goals: 0

Onyango was recalled to Finch Farm this week, having picked up a hamstring injury in November and remaining absent since.

The 21-year-old featured ten times during his time at Edgeley Park, operating at centre-half or right-back for Dave Challinor’s Hatters.

Onyango is out of contract at Everton this summer.

Harry Tyrer- Blackpool- 16th out of 24

Appearances: 20

Clean Sheets: 7

Tyrer has sealed his spot as the Tangerines’ first choice, after inconsistent form initially blotted his third professional loan spell.

The goalkeeper made a host of errors during the early part of the campaign, but, after time out of the team, has returned to his usual calm and commanding self, recording four clean sheet in his last eight games.

Steve Bruce’s side host Huddersfield Town on Saturday.

Championship:

Mason Holgate- West Bromwich Albion- 7th out of 24

Mason Holgate West Brom

Appearances: 14

Goals: 1

Holgate has become a regular for the Baggies, as they look to return to the top-flight for the first time since 2021.

The defender has featured 14 times so far this season, with his consistent displays rewarded with a call-up to the Jamaican national team, where he has since picked up three caps.

Scottish Premiership:

Elijah Campbell- Ross County- 10th out of 12

Appearances: 14

Goals: 1

Campbell has been in stellar form for County, with the defender’s move north of the border also acting as a springboard for his international career.

The defender is one of the first names on the team sheet for Don Cowie’s side- bar a knee injury keeping him out over Christmas- and the 20-year-old has managed to impress England u20 scouts in the process, making the left-back slot his own for them, too.

Campbell returned from his injury last weekend, and is now set to continue his run in the team against Livingston next.

Ligue 1:

Neal Maupay- Marseille- 2nd out of 18

Neal Maupay Marseille

Appearances: 15

Goals: 3

Marseille find themselves seven points behind league-leaders PSG, despite a solid season to date, with Maupay starting 12 games for the club.

The striker, who scored one goal in 32 Everton appearances, has turned provider for much of the season, registering four assists for team mates.

Maupay has continued his petulant streak both on and off the pitch, however, receiving a red card in October for a lazy challenge at Montpellier.

The rare-scoring forward will be looking to hit double figures for the first time in five years in the second half of the season.

Challenger Pro League:

Reece Welch- Deinze- N/A

Appearances: 3

Goals: 0

Welch’s spell in Belgium has been a disaster, with the defender unable to break into the squad before the club was declared bankrupt and, as of December, ceases to exist.

The 21-year-old will return to Merseyside.
