We are once again without a target man for the upcoming match against Wolverhampton Wanderers. Dominic Calvert-Lewin came out in the 37th minute of last weekend’s match against Aston Villa, having to be replaced by Arnaut Danjuma. Calvert-Lewin would not be the only Blue to be struck with an injury.
Iwobi will also miss the match this Saturday due to a hamstring injury that will keep him sidelined for “a few weeks” as said Dyche. Iwobi and Calvert-Lewin, two of our most dangerous and instrumental players, are sidelined for the time being, leaving us in an undesirable situation.
Youssef Chermiti will be one to watch as we, the fans, hope to see him make the 18 and possibly make his debut as well. Dyche said he knows when Chermiti will be available but would not go on to share that information during an interview held earlier this week.
Another big decision Dyche has to make is to either play a struggling Michael Keane or instead play young Jarrad Branthwaite. The fans are crying out to see a change in the back alongside Tarkowski and I personally hope to see this change happen against Wolves.
Most likely – to the distaste of the fans – we will see Neal Maupay play in place of Calvert-Lewin. Will we see James Garner slide into Iwobi’s position and will a well rested Mykolenko make his season debut? Dyche has his job cut out for him this week as the injury total reaches nine players that are currently out.
Wolves have been much more lucky than us, having no notable players injured. Although Matheus Nunes will miss the match due to his red card he received in the game against Brighton. Nunes is one of their most dynamic players and we should be pleased to not have to deal with him Saturday.
Everton and Wolves are very close in goals scored this season, Everton with zero goals scored and Wolves with only one goal scored. Both teams are having an incredibly tough time finding the back of the net.
Per Understat , Everton have an xG of 2.72 while Wolves have one of 2.92. The lack of goals with such and xG should make for an interesting game on Saturday. I’m sure Everton will find a way to make Wolves look like 2015 Barcelona.
Gary O’Neil is similar to Sean Dyche in a tactical sense. He prefers a 4-4-2 and on occasion a 3-4-2-1. O’Neil prefers to concede possession and in return play the counter-attack. Wolves have a few players that are dangerous in transition, players that will give our backline trouble.
Cunha, Neto and Hwang will all be players to watch on this match day. Wolves as a whole do not have an issue creating, but yet share the same issue we have: finishing the opportunities we create.
It’s too early to be saying this game will define the season but having picked up zero points thus far and with the injuries we have, we need to get points where we can. This game is a winnable game and we should win this match. We are at home, we have the better manager and we are the better side.
It should be an entertaining match for the neutral and I’m sure it will be a tense game for the Toffees that will have us on a roller coaster of emotions.
