November 2024 – A Quiet Boring Goalless Month

There is one thing that every single football team on planet earth needs to win matches. That one thing is goals. The one thing that Everton didn’t do a single time in the month of November was score a goal. Not only did Everton not score in November, and obviously they didn’t win a single match, but they also gave the worst team in the league their only win of the season to this point. Let’s start with that Southampton match.

It was the first match of November. Everton traveled to Southampton on while on an unbeaten run in five matches. Southampton had to that point not won a single match. Everton were shocking most of the match, but they did create a couple of chances that should have been put away. Jack Harrison hit the post after lifting the ball over an on rushing Aaron Ramsdale with about 10 minutes left in the match. 5 minutes later Beto thumped a header off the crossbar. On the ensuing clearance and rush back the other way Southampton scored quite easily. That goal sunk Everton and they were handed an embarrassing loss by a team that is much worse than them. Next came a trip to the capital taking on West Ham at the London stadium. This was a mostly drab affair with both sides not really creating a whole lot of chances until Danny Ings came on the pitch with just about 20 minutes left on the clock. West Ham hit the post in the 72nd minutes on a great team move by the Hammers. And then the two saves that helped Everton get a point came in quick succession. with 3 minutes left Ings fired a shot low and hard to Pickford’s right, but he did a great job to dig it out. The final save was spectacular. with just about the last kick of the match Paqueta picked out Ings with a through ball he shot it just about first time the ball took a slight deflection off James Tarkowski and somehow Pickford made a flying stop to save the point for Everton. If it weren’t for the loss at Southampton the draw at home against Brentford would have easily been the worst result of the month. Everton started really well for the first 15 minutes or so created a couple good chances forced a good Mark Flekken save, but the intensity faded after that. 5 minutes before half Everton were given a golden opportunity with Christian Norgaard getting set off after going studs out on Jordan Pickford. The 50 minutes after that red card was some of the worst football you’ll ever see with a man advantage. No creativity, hardly an chances created, only 2 subs made and not until the 72nd minute. It was an embarrassment. Everton gave Southampton their first win of the season and gave Brentford their first away points of the season. It was a shambolic month of football for Everton easily the worst so far this season, and now the run of winnable fixtures is coming to an end, December and January is full of matches where the club will be fighting just to get a point. The team is going to have to dig really deep in put in some great performances against teams much better than them.

Outside of the 3 matches there really wasn’t a whole lot going on in the month of November. a few rumors of potential replacement managers in case Dyche gets sacked once the takeover is complete, but that’s all speculation and speculation doesn’t merit mention. Everton now enter their busiest period of the schedule. The FA cup will be starting and there will be an announcement on Everton’s opponent soon. We would like to wish all Evertonians happy holidays to you and your families. To all the American toffees we hope your Thanksgivings were wonderful. Let’s hope Everton brings us all some holiday cheer to end 2024.
