Everton have been quiet thus far into this summer transfer window, but that was expected in early July. With funds being very limited and Everton not having the “pull” that they once did, Thelwell and his team have a difficult task at hand.
Wilfried Gnonto is looking to depart the recently relegated side, Leeds United. Leeds brought in the 19-year-old for just £4m the previous summer from FC Zurich in Switzerland, and will look to make some sort of profit sooner rather than later due to financial strain.
The Italian totaled two goals and four assists in 1,350 minutes while showcasing his talent and promising attributes which has attracted attention from clubs in Italy as well as Everton.
Gnonto’s agent Claudio Vigorelli has addressed the interest from Italy. Vigorelli told Calciomercato “The Premier League experience has been fantastic for him, and I think he wants to continue in that direction. Then, in football, everything can be, but right now the focus is on the national team.”
Everton are looking to capitalize on Leeds’ misfortune and bring in the youngster for a fee in the area of £13m. He is valued at £25m according to Football League World.
Leeds are looking to off-load a handful of players this window with Everton having interest in a few others as well. With Gnonto looking to be the most likely to land in Goodison, he will bring speed, athleticism and excitement to the front, something we desperately need.

3/5 – Leeds having been relegated will play a major part in completing the transfer for Gnonto. They need to lighten the wage bill and will look to recoup some funds for their attempt to return to the Premier League. Gnonto is on around £20k a week, which is considered one of their smaller wage bills.
Everton need to bolster their attack, having only scored 35 goals all season and being the second lowest just above Wolves who had a measly 31 goals.
With the current financial chokehold that is on Everton, smart deals will be the key to success this window. Gnonto should be on the lower end of the wage spectrum. As our history shows us shelling out massive wages to attract players, we must reverse that trend ASAP.
If Everton can get Gnonto for around £13m, that is very, very good business and a great way to start maybe the most important summer transfer window in the history of Everton.
If he were to arrive early, that would allow Thelwell and team to maneuver the waters much easier as opposed to pushing all business to the latter end of the window.
The only hesitation I have on Willy Gnonto would be his sample size and output. Although he is young and explosive, we very well could be in another relegation scrap this upcoming season and we need proven players, Premier League proven players. I’d gladly welcome him to Goodison and I’d expect great things from him as well. He’s a good player, and with a little bit of magic from Dyche, he could be a great player for us.
