Player Ratings | Liverpool 1-0 Everton

Jordan Pickford – 5

What a shame. One of the most ridiculous ends to a football game ever, and unfortunately it was down to this fella at the end. Made a wonderful save from Xherdan Shaqiri in what looked a certain goal, but was also a bit nervy in possession on several occasions. Not his best match, but let’s draw a line under it.

Seamus Coleman – 6

The Irishman defended well, using his body to shield off Liverpool attacks on several occasions, but struggled with the pace of Sadio Mane at times. Didn’t provide much of an attacking impetus going forward, but was part of a strong back line today.

Michael Keane – 7

Keane had another solid game, containing Roberto Firmino and making a few crucial tackles. He was also reliable in the air when required.

Yerry Mina – 8

Mina put in another great performance at centre-back, with displays of skill and confidence on the ball whenever given time. Threw himself into the challenge to prevent several goalwards shots, and is becoming a vital part of this Everton side and an astute signing.

Lucas Digne – 7

The left-back did well to contain Mo Salah, and his sensible jockeying and pressing made Everton tough to break down for Liverpool’s attack.

Andre Gomes – 8

He really is different class. The best midfielder on the pitch by far, and arguably the best player on it too. The Portuguese’s confidence is through the roof at the moment, and as well as doing the basics brilliantly, he’s not afraid to add a touch of class with tricks and flicks. He sent Trent Alexander-Arnold for a hot dog on one occasion, and really is a touch of class. Man of the match, despite missing a great chance after an Alisson save.

Idrissa Gueye – 6

If only he was as good on the ball as he is at winning it back. Still, an energetic performance from Gana, who compliments Gomes nicely in midfield every time. Played a large part in breaking up Liverpool’s play through pressing as well as interceptions and tackles, typically.

Gylfi Sigurdsson – 6

Couldn’t link up the Everton side as well as he has done in recent weeks, but worked hard anyway.

Theo Walcott – 5

Increasingly seeming the weak link in Everton’s forward play, after missing another clear-cut chance today. Tracked back more than he has done and showed positive signs going forward but seems unable to finish his dinner at the moment, similarly to how Tosun looked before he was dropped from the team. One goal and he’ll get that back, fingers crossed. Brought off after an hour today.

Richarlison – 6

Quieter from the frontman, but he did put himself about against a physical Liverpool centre-back pairing. Begs the question whether he might benefit from another striker alongside him in the coming weeks.

Bernard – 6

Bernard showed touches of class again but it just didn’t come together with his teammates today, unfortunately. Great at drawing fouls in promising positions again, though.

SUBS

Ademola Lookman (Walcott, 63) – 7

Another positive cameo from the winger, who tried to make things happen in his half-hour on the field. Showed his unbelievable dribbling skills again, but couldn’t find a way through.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Bernard, 89) – N/A

Positive and looking sharp.

Kurt Zouma – (Sigurdsson, 90+1) – N/A

No time.
