With Ashley Young due to receive his medical ahead of the his transfer to Everton, looks all but certain. Unless your name is Arnaut Danjuma.
It’s not the exciting player we all hoped for, but it’s not a bad bit of business. Young, at 38, Young can still offer something to the team, that be in leadership, mentoring younger players and with his play.
Last season with Aston Villa, Young played in 23 matches and accumulated 2,178 minutes over said matches.
Young is said to be signing a 1-year deal worth somewhere in the area of £1.7m-£1.9m with a possible 2nd year option.
He’s no spring chicken, but I believe he can offer enough to appease the eyes of Evertonians. He’s a proven Premier League player, he has the head to play at this level. Not necessarily the athleticism anymore, but he did look just fine at Villa.
Everton needs not only athletic and young explosive players, but also smart players, and this is a good start in my eyes.
The integration into the “Dyche ball” system should be almost seamless for Young. He’s a versatile player with a good work rate and most importantly, a veteran who’s done it all.
Making smart moves with the little bit of cash we have is pivotal to being successful this season. Hopefully we will see more deals done in the coming week or so.
