According to the latest reports from L’Equipe and Le10Sport, Marseille are getting closer to signing Neal Maupay from Everton. According to L’Equipe Marseille are ‘insisting’ on Maupay and are hoping to convince Everton to a loan deal with an option to buy for € 4 Million
Le10Sport are saying that a deal is close and talks a progressing between the clubs however Everton want a permanent transfer and are wanting to sell Maupay for € 8 Million.
The French 28 year old striker joined Everton under the wishes of Frank Lampard in the Summer of 2022 for a fee of around £15 Million. He joined fellow Premier League side Brentford on loan last season and managed to 8 goals in 31 games, only 1 goal less than our top scorer last season Dominic Calvert-Lewin. According to various reports Brentford also hold an interest in signing Maupay again this Summer.
Maupay has struggled to life at Everton with fans ready to see him leave the club this Summer.
Overall he has played 32 games for Everton getting 1 goal and 2 assists.
Toffee Blues says;
4/5 – It looks a dead certainty that Maupay ends up leaving Everton before the close of the transfer window and overall it is best for both parties. Maupay is a reminder of Lampard’s Everton and all the mess that entailed, he has never truly looked like he has settled or enjoyed his time at the club and a move back to France is probably what is best. Everton do need to make sure that they get a good deal however, a striker who scored 8 goals last season is still worth having around as an option if the right deal cannot be agreed.
Maupay’s Everton contract is up next Summer but the club hold an option to extend it by a further year. Marseille are currentl trying to sign him on loan for the season with option but Everton need to agree to a permanent transfer or at least a transfer with an obligation so Everton can get at least some income from Maupay’s time at the club.
